Employee to Apprentice
A key element of the vision for securing the future of Bensons is recognising performance, and reinvesting in our team members to enable them to grow and develop with the business.
This is true at all levels of the company; it creates opportunities, and we are delighted to be able to share a recent example.
In June of 2024, we recruited Leon into our manufacturing team. This was to backfill a position made vacant by an internal promotion.
Roll forward 6 months, and it was clear that Leon was performing at the high level we had anticipated when we recruited him, and even better, he was keen to progress.
With the culture of open communication that we have at Bensons, it was easy to air this desire and to mutually explore options. This resulted in Leon deciding that the development route best suited to him would be to embark on an apprenticeship that would provide him with the skills to transition into a fully trained panel wirer over the next three years. Given the capabilities and attitude demonstrated, we were only too happy to support him in this endeavour.
Consequently, in May, Leon started at the AMRC on a Level 3 Electrical Fitter apprenticeship, and in doing so, brought the total number of apprentices that we have within Bensons to six, making up roughly 15% of our workforce.
This, in turn, creates a further opportunity to bring additional talent into the business to backfill Leon's previous role, which was accomplished with the appointment of Miles in mid-May.
We look forward to continuing with this virtuous circle of team development over the coming years.
